Frequently
Asked Questions
Thousands
of pets are lost every year in Delaware. If they are one
of the lucky ones they will be rescued or taken to a
shelter. Collars with tags are the best way to identify
your pet should they become lost. Any other form of
identification is considered secondary. But have you
ever thought to yourself...How would I notify people if
my pet ever went missing? What
if there is an emergency and my pet is left home
alone? We have developed a statewide lost pet prevention
and recovery service to aid in the reduction of lost and
abandoned pets. Our mission is to reunite you with your
pet as quickly as possible should they become missing.
How
do we do that? We utilize a network of pet friendly
organizations, shelters, humane societies, veterinarians
and pet lovers throughout our state. Should your pet go
missing we will immediately notify our network through
the use of email, fax and phone calls, facebook and
twitter. We know that
getting the word out to as many people as possible and
as quickly as possible will be the key to finding your
pet. Your pet will also be featured on our website for
lost pets. We also continuously run database checks and
cross reference with descriptions to compare your pet's
description with statewide "found" reports in
the event that your pet was found without their tag.
Why
should I purchase a kit? Delaware Pet Alert
is the only statewide lost pet prevention & recovery
service that can help your pet in any
emergency at anytime and anywhere. It's a service that
operates statewide, 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year that
works like a 911 for your pet. We will notify everyone in our network to look for your
pet. A regular tag or microchip can't do that. Did I
mention, DPA will also call 50 nearby neighbors of where
your pet was last seen? DPA offers so many benefits.
How
do I notify DPA that my pet is lost? You
will receive instructions in your kit that tells you how
to easily notify us should your pet ever go missing.
Who receives the alerts? APB
Alerts are sent to all DPA members, face book fans,
twitter followers and network members
because a pet can travel very far within a short period
of time. With people traveling to work etc and with
Delaware being such a small state we have a great
opportunity to network with each other for the safety of
pets.
